Opening Remarks:

Laís Thomaz - Assistant Professor at Federal University of Goiás (UFG). She is the Coordinator of the Center for Global Studies (NEG in Portuguese). In 2018 she was elected as the Vice Director of the Brazilian Political Science Association (ABCP) for the Central and Northern regions. Dr. Thomaz received her PhD and M.A degree in International Relations and developed her Postdoctoral researcher at San Tiago Dantas Graduate Program supported by Sao Paulo State University (Unesp), State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and Pontificial Catholic University of Sao Paulo (PUC-SP) . She was Visiting Scholar at the Department of Government at Georgetown University (2014/2015). She also attended the Public Affairs and Advocacy Institute (PAAI) and European Public Affairs and Advocacy Institute (EPAAI) promoted by American University.

Eric Hershberg - director of the Center for Latin American and Latino Studies and a professor of government at American University. From 2007-2009 he was President of the Latin American Studies Association while serving as professor of political science and director of Latin American Studies at Simon Fraser University, in Vancouver, Canada. From 1990-2006 he worked as a program director at the Social Science Research Council in New York City. He received his Ph.D from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has taught at New York University, Southern Illinois University, Columbia, Princeton and the New School.

Prof James A. Thurber

James A. Thurber is University Distinguished Professor of Government and Founder (1979) and Former Director (1979-2016) of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies and Affiliate Distinguished Professor of Public Administration and Policy at American University, Washington, D.C. He is author of numerous books and more than 90 articles and chapters on Congress, interest groups and lobbying, and campaigns and elections.

Skilled in Negotiation, U.S. Foreign Policy, Political Science and International Relations.
